TV SHOWS to binge-watch|Crime, Drama, Mystery

I admit. I am quite the TV-series binge-watcher when I find something good on Netflix or anywhere else for that matter.

As I have spent a good amount of time watching TV series, I want to share with you some of my all-time favourites. This list is more on the drama/crime/thriller side of the spectrum.

1. Peaky Blinders

Seasons: 4 –

Genre: crime, drama

My boyfriend and I have been introduced to this amazing TV-show by his sister and her boyfriend. At first, we were not that into it, but after the first episode, we were hooked. We finished it in no time and have been obsessed ever since. Each season will leave you either on a cliffhanger or with your emotions wrecked.

The storyline is set in post-war Birmingham in the 1920s and follows Thomas Shelby and his family in their illegal activities. The music is so well picked, even features the Arctic Monkeys. The sad part is that the next season will air in 2019.

You can watch it on Netflix.

2. The Crown

Seasons: 2 –

Genre: drama, history

This tv show is all about Britain at a time when King George VI got extremely ill and passed away and Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne. The show follows Queen Elizabeth II since her marriage to Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh and is a biographical documentation of her reign.

I found it especially interesting as I am living in the United Kingdom and I want to study and find out more about their history.

You can watch it on Netflix.

3. How to get away with murder

Seasons: 4 –

Genre: crime, drama, mystery

One of the best tv shows I have seen in a while. It is so good and gets you in the mood to study the law and become a lawyer or a judge.

Annalise Keating is a defence lawyer and also teaches this at University. She chooses five students from her class as interns and gives them the real feeling of being in court. So interesting and tangled in many plot twists, this tv show will leave you wanting more from the first episode.

You can watch it on Netflix.

4. Big little lies

Seasons: 1 –

Genre: crime, drama, mystery

I have watched season 1 in a day. One day. I was browsing HBOgo as I wanted to find something new and I saw it. I have wanted to see it for some time with my boyfriend, but he was not that into the storyline. So I watched it on my own on my day off.

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz all in one TV-show. The story follows Jane (Shailene Woodley), who has a son, when she moves to Monterey, California. There she meets Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) who has two daughters and Celeste (Nicole Kidman) who has two twin boys. Deep, dark secrets come out, the high point of the tv show being the ongoing murder investigation.

Again, great plot-twists and the ending…you will only expect it if you are paying attention to each and every detail in the storyline.

5. Prison break

Seasons: 6

Genre: action, crime, drama

One of the best TV shows out there. Prison Break is about Michael Scofield who gets himself in prison in order to break out his brother who was wrongfully sentenced to death row.

Again, such a great series to binge-watch because otherwise, you will keep thinking about the next episode and Michael’s next moves.

6. The Blacklist

Seasons: 5 –

Genre: crime, drama, mystery

Elizabeth Keen is an FBI profiler and one random day Raymond Reddington, a notorious criminal and on the most wanted list, turns himself into FBI custody and desires to only talk to agent Keen. A Task Force is brought together and so begins their adventure to catching “blacklist” criminals, of course, with Reddington’s help.

One of the best series in the recent years, trust me on this one. It is full of action and mystery as throughout the show you will be given clues regarding certain characters. No spoilers!

You can watch it on Netflix. (in some countries)

7. American Horror Story

Seasons: 7 –

Genre: drama, horror, thriller

This show is everything from creepy to scary to funny and weird. The seasons so far were set in “a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show, a hotel, a possessed farmhouse, and a cult“. I am not usually able to watch horror shows or films, but I was able to bear through this. So if you are like me and enjoy scary to a decent degree then this show is for you.

You can watch it on Netflix.

8. Stranger things

Seasons: 2 –

Genre: drama, fantasy, horror

Everyone was talking about ‘Stranger Things’ at some point in the last two years. The first season starts in a small town when a group of kids are looking for their missing friend, together with his mom and brother and the police chief. Things get strange when supernatural activity is hidden by the government and brought to light. I won’t say any more because I hate spoilers.

You can watch it on Netflix.

9. DARK

Seasons: 1

Genre: crime, drama, mystery

It’s so good when you have someone who has impeccable taste in tv shows and that, you guessed it, is my boyfriend. He told me about this and we started watching it together.

I find it extremely hard to explain what this show is about, but I will try my best.

The action is happening in a small town in Germany. Two young children disappear, there is time-travel involved and you will get tangled in a complicated and mind-blowing web of events.

You can watch it on Netflix with English audio + subtitles.

10. Supernatural

Seasons: 13 –

Genre: drama, fantasy, horror

Yay! You’ve made it to the last one on the list.

‘Supernatural’ is about two brother, Sam and Dean, become hunters from a young age. But not your typical deer hunters, but ghosts and monsters hunters. Throughout the 13 seasons, they fight vampires, werewolves. They fight the apocalypse and work with angels against Lucifer. They make deals with the devil and cheat death on multiple occasions. If I haven’t already sold this tv show for you then bear in mind that the two main actors are strikingly handsome and very funny. You will hear great music and even shed a tear or two.

I have so many TV shows I wanted to list but I will make another list very soon, so stay tuned.
