10 reasons to be happy

Happiness is relative.

I saw a video on Facebook, it was Will Smith talking about love and happiness in relationships and how one of his wife’s, Jada Pinkett-Smith, revelations was that you cannot make someone else happy.

Now let that sink in for a second. You cannot make someone else happy. Happiness is something that comes from within us. No one can make us happy if we don’t want to feel like that in the first place; if we don’t put the effort into becoming a happy, positive person.

Everyone has good and bad days, but it’s important to always remember that life is short, beautiful and we deserve to live life to the fullest. Every day.

Here are 10 reasons to be happy.

1. Opening your eyes in the morning

This is something we all take for granted, but we need to be grateful for another day, and being able to see, hear, speak, feel. We make plans for the next day, we go to bed, but in reality, we never know if there is going to be a tomorrow.

2. Coffee

This may not resonate with you, unless you are a coffee drinker/addict, like me. The smell in the morning, the foam after you pour the milk in, every sip of this warm potion makes me happy. I take the time for myself and a cup of coffee and every morning I sit on the balcony, I look at the sights, close my eyes and I take in the sun and the wind. It’s my moment in the morning when I relax and I mentally prepare for whatever I have to do that day.

3. Sunrises

Sometimes, my mood depends on how the weather is. When I wake up and I see the sun shining and a clear blue sky I get out of bed quicker, I am more positive and I feel overall better. I feel motivated and inspired to conquer the world.

4. Music

Music is a big part of my life and has been ever since I was little. My family, especially my dad, shares my passion for music. He has endless CDs stacked on shelves in our living room and vinyl records ready to be played. I listen to music 70% of my day, from happy songs to sad ballads to relaxing music and dance anthems.

5. Finding your passion

I believe that I am blessed to have found something I enjoy doing and pursuing it as a career. When I had to choose a subject to study at university, I was completely and utterly clueless. I knew I loved writing and English. I decided to pursue journalism and here I am today, almost finishing my second-year of studying, typing away on this blank canvas, expressing myself and my thoughts. So find your passion and never let go.

6. Going for a run, being active, being healthy

If we don’t have health we have and we are nothing. Health is the most important thing in life. Without health we cannot do what makes us happy, we cannot enjoy the small things in life and we cannot achieve our greatest goals. Go for a run, eat your vegetables, take care of your body and of your mind.

7. Smiles

Seeing someone smile, either at their phone or while talking to someone, seeing a child laughing completely turns my mood around. I believe that smiles are pure, and you can truly see when someone is genuinely happy. This makes me happy.

8. Good food

I think we can both agree that good food is a gift on this planet, from burgers and pizzas to salads and Sunday roasts and desserts. When you arrive home from school or work, and you sit down and eat your favourite food, don’t you feel happy and content?

9. Talking to loved ones

Seeing a message light up on my screen from my boyfriend, who is miles away, instantly puts a smile on my face. The same goes for talking to my dad and sister, who are back home in Romania, about what our days had been like. I love going for walks with my mom and talking about everything, exchanging thoughts and ideas. Human connections and relationships are precious.

10. Sunsets

One of the most beautiful things in life. I love looking out the window at sunset, seeing the nature dressed in the changing colours of the sun going to sleep. Sunsets make me think of how beautiful life is. Sometimes I close my eyes and think of the beach because that is where I have seen some of the most magical sunsets ever.

I hope you are happy or are working towards achieving this.

I have sprinkled positivity and love all throughout this article, in-between each line you read and I hope it touched you in some way.

I’ll see you soon . . .
