5 Spring Summer 2021 trends you need to know about

Spring 2021 ‒ I made sure to get comfy for this with a glass of rose on one side and my fashion bible also known as British Vogue on the other. As I am typing this, I have a bunch of fresh pink carnations on my nightstand contrasting the cold March wind that just sneaked in through the ajar window. Even though cherry trees are already blooming and grass is getting greener, the warm weather is taking its sweet time to make its appearance this season, right?

I admit, I’ve been eagerly rooting for spring for some time now (and hoping not to freeze on my weekly food shop) with a faux leather taupe trench coat. And perfect timing, my order of bright pink sandals and neutral mules just arrived ‒ I can’t wait to introduce them to Central and long coffee dates in the sunshine soon. But until then…

Thankfully, we’ve got the Spring 2021 Ready-to-Wear collections and trends to get us excited for the time we’re out of lockdown and can finally make our endless online shopping sprees’ debut into the world.

To be honest, this SS21 fashion season is one of my favourites, from Versace‘s stunning aquatic embroidered bra tops to Schiaparelli‘s must-have double-breasted jacket and pleated trousers.

So, here are five Spring/Summer 2021 trends I absolutely love, and I think you will too…

Chic corsets & bralettes

This season, forget crop tops and embrace dainty bralettes and statement corsets.

Pair a simple bralette with high-waisted trousers and comfy sandals for a fresh look, go for a faux leather corset to highlight your waist, or grab an oversized blazer and swap sandals for trainers for a relaxed feel.

From left to right: ASOS DESIGN co-ord bralet with ring detail, £16 / H&M white/black checked bralette, £12.99 / COS Merino wool mix strap detail bralette in light blue, £39 / ASYOU tie front pu bralet in black, £12.

Wide-leg trousers

From left to right: Chanel / Fendi / Giorgio Armani / Louis Vuitton.

They may come in many forms, colours and textures… but the super-stylish wide-leg trousers have quickly become a must-have item and are top of my wishlist.

Choose a high-rise pair in a vibrant shade and dress them up with sleek mules and an elegant white poplin shirt, or dress them down to create an effortless look with some bulky trainers and an oversized T-shirt.

Shop the trend…

From left to right: & Other Stories Tapered pink wool blend trousers, £63 / River Island Petite black wide leg pleat front trousers, £40 / Zara wide-leg trousers, £29.99 / New Look Mink high waist wide leg trousers, £22.99.

Sweet pastels

From left to right: Chloé / Fendi / Miu Miu / Valentino.

Colour is everywhere on the runway! Imagine trench coats, statement suits and sheer dresses in soft shades such as blush pink, pale blue and washed lilac, or in stand-out tones of sage green, electric red and burnt orange.

What a better time to add a pop of colour to your wardrobe than now with spring just around the corner? I don’t know about you but I’ve got my eye on all-things pink!

But if you’re a black and white lover, don’t worry, a monochromatic look is timeless – plus, there was an abundance of achromatic looks in the SS21 collections, like Carolina Herrera, Balmain, and more.

Shop the trend…

From left to right: & Other Stories oversized blazer in pastel blue, £52.30 / Zara Knit cardigan with rhinestone buttons, £27.99 / Dune Spaghetti strap stiletto heel sandals, £30 / Missguided blue faux leather croc shoulder bag, £14.40 / Mango Oversize cotton shirt, £29.99.

Playful patterns

From left to right: Dolce & Gabbana / Étoile Isabel Marant / Polo Ralph Lauren / Missoni.

Chic gingham, trendy houndstooth, traditional check, dainty florals and all animal prints have come out to play on the runway.

Whether it’s a matching set in complementing colours, or an adventurous, eclectic mix of patterns, let your creativity flow and go the maximalist route this season.

Shop the trend…

From left to right: Zara Stripped shirt with ribbed trims, £27.99 / Fashion Union ruffle front crop top with cross back in check, £24 / Zara Printed cropped shirt, £27.99 / River Island Pink animal print frill hem shorts, £28 / Mango Gingham blazer in beige, £59.99.

Cheeky cut-outs

From left to right: Altuzarra / Prada / Fendi / Michael Kors.

Show a glimpse of your lush skin through stand-out cut-outs.

Choose a knitted shirt with snips right down the side and pair it with a matching skirt, or go for a figure-hugging sweater with cut-outs scattered all around and a pair of black, high-rise faux leather trousers. My favourite detail is the subtle cut highlighting the décolletage area.

Shop the trend…

From left to right: H&M Cut-out swimsuit high leg, £10 / & Other Stories Fitted cut out crop top in light blue, £45 / Mango Cut-out detail top in black, £19.99 / New Look Blue Vanilla camel fine knit tie crop top, £12.

So, which is your favourite?
